stuck together on a roller-coaster?

This course aims to help you live the life you intend to live. Realise your real potential by sending bipolar off stage. Learn ways to improve and lengthen your well periods, get your head out of bipolar, stay in the mainstream and achieve some goals!

Bipolar disorder doesn't have to ruin your life! In this course you will learn how to identify your own signs of oncoming illness and how to put the brakes on. We also show you how to make safety nets, in case the brakes fail!

Work with a friend, parent or partner and invite your doctor or mental health worker to participate and you'll have a strong, well-informed team to keep you healthy.

This course aims to help you live a life you intend to live.

Yes! At last—

  • a course that treats you like any other adult learner;
  • a course that gives you the medical knowledge in an environment in which you can easily ask questions;
  • a course that helps you through the tough decisions to protect your life and lifestyle;
  • a course that takes into account your whole life, not just your medical condition.

Features of the course:

  • A sufferer and their chosen supporter both enrol and work together;
  • Your doctor is involved early to work with your and your Supporter;
  • Flexible timelines - if you become unwell, just take a break;
  • The course teachers and the moderators of forums are people living with bipolar disorder;
  • Adult education-based, with stated Learning Outcomes, Capabilities, attention to Learning Styles;
  • Work at your own pace: 6 week active participation followed up by 3 months continued access to facilitator and forums;
  • All materials delivered in "bipolar -speak."

What we hope you'll get from the course

You'll learn to ride that roller-coaster with style! Invent some 'brakes' and 'safety nets' just in case of future illness.

We put safety catches on the triggers of illness and build strong bullbars against collateral damage.

Relax at last. Chaos will become a thing of the past. You can even start living the life you intend rather than being tied onto that darned roller-coaster.

Put it all into one Living Well Plan that you can use to stay well, guide your life and review when circumstances change.

How it works

Working in a team of two, (a Sufferer and his or her Supporter), you'll learn the useful parts of the medical side of bipolar disorder, plus what triggers illness.

You'll discover by working together the warning signs of becoming ill.

You will visit your treating doctor and get him or her on board to make up a joint plan that will keep bipolar disasters at bay.

But this program goes further than that: we aim to get every participant, whether Sufferer or Supporter, on track back into the mainstream of life, living the life you intend to live. You'll select some personal and joint goals, and because you've got bipolar disorder under more control you can do what you choose to!

Forums in the course will be open for several months so you will have plenty of opportunity to share ideas and test your living-well plan.

About the teacher

This bipolar education program is personally taught and moderated by Madeleine Kelly, author of the book Bipolar and the Art of Roller-coaster Riding.

Madeleine Kelly developed this course because the only other online courses have been developed by academics, with a focus on the agenda of medical professionals (drug compliance). We need this course and others like it to ensure that our bipolar education meets the priorities of the lives we intend to live.

Free bonus!

To help with the course we're giving participants a FREE copy of Bipolar and the Art of Roller-coaster Riding, the award-winning book on bipolar disorder by Madeleine Kelly at the value of $29.95.

What you need

You will need your FREE copy of the e-book saved onto your computer.

You also need to be well enough to have the motivation to do about 2 hours work a week (this could be in little bits) and to come back to the course once a week.

Special considerations

We know what bipolar is like. If you hit a rough spot during the course, you can take extra weeks up to a total of 3. If your glitch is longer than that, just let us know and we will defer your place for up to a year.
